Convivir’s immigrant and first gen youth honor their families alongside local artist, Diego Florez

Denver, CO, July 20, 2022 – Convivir presents a new cultural mural outside the BUILD by
Radian co-working space on 33rd and Larimer. 25 immigrant and first gen youth from across
metro Denver worked alongside “artivist” and beloved leader, Diego Florez, to envision and
paint this vibrant mural in the Five Points neighborhood. The design features a visual
representation of the immigrant journey as the students have experienced it: the impact of its
past, its challenging present, and the blooming future they dream of. Come see the
unveiling of the mural and hear from the artist and youth themselves at our Community
Celebration and Showcase this Saturday.

“This mural is our students’ hope to activate people’s imagination, as they tell the story of their
families’ immigrant experiences. The colorful plumed serpent represents forward movement in
recognition of our collective journey. It’s important to tell this story in a neighborhood saturated
with murals because it quite literally reflects the history of a large percentage of Denver’s
population, and features my own first generation American dreams woven with those of
immigrant and first generation youth.” – Diego Florez
